Smriti ("we", "our", or "us") is a private reading app, built by NeoArka. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when you use the Smriti mobile app and related services. Information We Collect

• Account information: name, email address, and password if you create an account.
• Reading data: books in your library, shelves, reading progress, pages read, and reading sessions.
• Notes and contexts: quotes, concepts, principles, questions, and other content you save.
• Companion conversations: messages you send to the in-app reading companion and AI-generated replies.
• Device identifier: a locally generated device ID used for guest mode and optional data migration.
• Subscription information: your plan and subscription status. Payment is handled entirely by Google Play — we do not receive or store your card or payment details.
• Technical data: basic app usage needed to operate the service, such as API requests and error logs.

How We Use Information

• Provide core app features such as library management, progress tracking, journaling, and context capture.
• Authenticate accounts and sync data across devices when you sign up or log in.
• Power the optional AI reading companion and generate suggested contexts from conversations.
• Maintain, secure, and improve the app and backend services.

Guest Mode

You can use Smriti without creating an account. In guest mode, your data is associated with a device identifier stored on your device and sent to our backend so your library and notes can be saved.

Third-Party Services

We use trusted third-party providers to operate Smriti:

• Hosting: Render for backend API hosting.
• Database: MongoDB Atlas for storing account and reading data.
• AI processing: Groq for companion chat and context generation from conversations.
• Book search: Open Library for book metadata and cover lookups.
• Billing: Google Play Billing for subscription purchases and management.

These providers process data on our behalf only as needed to deliver the service. We do not sell your personal information.

International Data Transfers

Our service providers may process and store your information in countries other than your own. Wherever your information is processed, we take steps to protect it consistent with this Privacy Policy.

Microphone Access

If you use speech input in companion mode, the app may request microphone access on your device. Speech processing may rely on platform or browser speech services depending on your device.

Data Retention

We retain your information while your account is active or while you continue using guest mode. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time, either in-app (Profile → Delete Account / Delete My Data) or via email request — see Delete Your Data for details. Deletion is immediate for in-app requests and completed within 30 days for email requests.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and hashed passwords. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

Your Choices

• Use guest mode without creating an account.
• Create an account to access your data across devices.
• Delete your account and data in-app at any time, or request access, correction, or deletion by contacting us — see Delete Your Data.

Children's Privacy

Smriti is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date when changes are posted.
